The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

  1. The assignment is about reading and writing in a social studies unit. We are using CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.5.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.5.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.5.3 to determine, explain, summarize, write, and develop a learning progression about the relationship between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. The common core helps guide us through what we want students to learn (what, how, when and why).

2. I will be a more effective teacher because I have learned that common core standards are a guide to help develop successful lesson planning. This will improve my practice when I choose appropriate lessons that align with common core standards. I have learned about unpacking what students need to learn from wording to conceptual and how to start at a basic level of rigor before moving to more challenging Art lessons.
